Can anyone else believe that there is only one week left in this month? Where did July go?
I feel really good about the progress the hubs and I have made this month. I think just the simple act of drawing attention to our eating habits has made us realize how crazy we were with going out. It has forced us to plan, be more intentional, and stretched my creativity in the kitchen. I’ve really challenged myself to use what we have in the fridge/pantry and not just quickly give up saying “there’s nothing to eat,let’s go out!” And instead of meeting friends out for dinner, we have hosted dinner in our home potluck style and had so much fun that we are going to continue the transition and rotate host houses monthly.
We went to out to dinner this past Sunday, and it was really nice to not have to plan and prepare a meal. What was even nicer was not having to clean up, and it felt like a real treat and not just plan B when I was feeling lazy. The baby is fascinated when he’s in the kitchen with me. We talk about all the things I’m doing, and he just watches in amazement. He hates when I chop onions :), but loves the sound they makes when they hit the hot pan. I hope and pray he grows up to love to cook as much as I do.
I haven’t taken inventory of the food budget quite yet, but I feel like it has to be in better shape than last month. One week left to go and then it’s time to proceed to goal two: reducing the actual grocery bill!
